First published in 1907, it's a timeless South African classic detailing Sir Percy Fitzpatrick's travels with his dog. The runt of a litter, Jock became a loyal and fearless companion to this author, politician and pioneer. The book was adapted for movie in 1986, featuring the Johnny Clegg track 'Spirit of the Great Heart' and is set to be released as a 3D animated movie next year.

Our education system has been described as a 'toxic mix' with 80 percent of State schools dysfunctional. Add a strike to that mix and failure could be looming for matrics, with exams around the corner. But spare a thought for those teachers who spend long, dedicated hours in the classroom, often with little reward. Carte Blanche strikes a balance.
